Synopsis:
Situated on a hillside above the Karroo town of Ashton.

Details:
At the beginning of 1900, Ashton consisted of just a few buildings: the Railway station, the Ashton Hotel (under manager Max Belonsky), the police station, a one-man school, and on the corner to the Main Road, a shop. Ashton was always associated with dust storms because there were no tarred streets at that time. You had to pass through the kloof to get to Montagu; eight times you had to cross the river. Halfway through the kloof you had to pay toll money. Pasqualie was the tollmaster.
During 1877 Thomas Bain had constructed the road and the tunnel through the kloof. Before that time a Post coach conveyed the post to Montagu. During 1931 the road was tarred - what a change! A bus service began, also belonging to the Railways. At 6 o'clock every morning, the bus departed from here - you got off at Cape Town station, and at 6 o'clock at night you arrived in Montagu.
The famous hot water springs are there, and are still a great attraction, and a significant source of income to Montagu.
The cache is hidden under a rock, forming part of the apex of the A in Ashton, up on the hillside above the town. You can drive nearly to the cache but will have to find the road!
The cache is a small black screw top container. Inside is a log. Please take a pen along to sign the log.
Watch out for muggles as the cache area is quite exposed.
